MassTEC Teacher Survey

Calling All Technology Education Teachers!

Greetings:

As I found when doing research for my dissertation, little is known about who actually teaches Technology Education and related studies in the United States. In communications with the ITEA, we have been told that there are approximately 25,000 to 39,000 Tech Ed teachers in the U.S.A. The numbers could not be verified or sorted into any type of aggregate that would tell us who teaches, what do we teach, what is the age and gender of our Tech Ed work force nor what we need to prepare for the future in terms of maintaining or replacing retired staff.

The nice folks at ITEA could tell us that in 2005, the ITEA had 3,763 total individual (as opposed to group or institution) memberships of whom 688 (18.3%) are women and 3075 (81.7%) are men (private email October 6, 2005). It appears that the percentage of female technology education teachers is somewhere between 10 (Gray and Daugherty, 2004) and 18.3 percent (Wickes, 2005)

Once again, we in Massachusetts need to lead the way to:

  • Obtain a demographic of who teaches Technology Education in our Commonwealth
Identify the courses and topics taught under the Technology Education umbrella
Discover the issues and interests of Massachusetts Technology Education teachers for future workshops and professional development
Create a statewide list-serve to keep in touch and share great tips
    Help us serve you better!

  • There will be two easy ways to let us hear from you! Simply fill out the stamped post card you'll soon be receiving in our newsletter or click on this link, download the document and email/send to Ray McCarthy, MassTEC Board Member.

    Thank You!
