The Massachusetts teaching and learning system
Real-time access to information has transformed the way Americans work, learn, and play. From mobile devices to home computers to social networking sites-access to data and information that increases learning, productivity and personal effectiveness is increasingly just a touch screen or a click away. Schools, districts, and the ESE collect vast amounts of current and historical data about students in every classroom in the Commonwealth. Unfortunately, reports that can inform an educator's decisions on current students are often unavailable, too difficult to access, or are out of date causing many educator's to miss unique opportunities to have an even greater positive impact on a child's education and life.
This will change when ESE launches, the Massachusetts teaching and learning system. Click here for more information 10-2-2011

Massachusetts is one of 20 states that will lead the development of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), which will clearly define the science and engineering content and practices students will need to learn from kindergarten through high school graduation. The development of the NGSS started with the building of a research-based framework by the National Research Council that identified the core ideas and practices in science and engineering that all students should be familiar with by the time they graduate. The next step is the development of standards based on the Framework. As a Lead State Partner, Massachusetts will guide the standards writing process, gather and deliver feedback from state-level committees and benefit from technical assistance to develop a plan to implement revised science and engineering standards. Below is the press release from Achieve regarding the new science standards. There will be two public comment review periods and I will send you an email about these. Massachusetts will be considering the adoption of these standards as our state standards, so it is very, very important for you to give feedback during these public comment periods. It is expected that these "national" standards will be finalized in December 2012. For more information, visit the Next Generation Science Standards website at www.nextgenscience.org.
