- From the Associate Commissioner regarding Educator Licensure September 2010
Staff reductions will significantly affect our Office of Educator Licensure which has already seen more than a 30 percent reduction in funding over the last two years. We are actively pursuing a range of process improvements and efficiencies in the credentialing of our educator workforce to streamline customer service, evaluations, and the issuance of licenses. However, until we are able to implement these planned changes, there will likely be unavoidable cuts in some services and possibly longer turnaround times for certain licensure requests and reviews.
Accordingly, effective Monday, August 30th, the Licensure Office will only be accepting phone calls at the Call Center (781-338-6600) from Monday -Friday from 2:00 - 5:00 P.M. Please note, all information available through the Call Center can be found on the Department's website at: www.doe.mass.edu/educators. In addition, the Licensure walk-in Help Desk in Malden will continue to be staffed from 8:45 to 4:45. As always, information on individual licensure status will be available through the online ELAR system, through which individuals can apply for licenses and license renewal.
These are challenging fiscal times at the ESE and across the Commonwealth. We regret that they will result in some necessary staffing and service cutbacks. Notwithstanding, we remain committed to providing a high level of service and
support to the Commonwealth's school districts, as well as to its aspiring and licensed educators.
Yours sincerely,
David Haselkorn, Associate Commissioner
Educator Effectiveness
